Panthera Africa NPC Safely Relocates Four Rescued Jackals to Their New Forever Home, Providing a More Natural, Enriched Environment for Their Future
STANFORD – January 31, 2025 – Panthera Africa is proud to announce the successful relocation of four rescued jackals to their new forever home at our sanctuary in Stanford, Western Cape. This carefully planned rescue mission comes as part of our ongoing commitment to ethical animal care, offering these jackals a safe, enriched environment where they can thrive.
These four jackals—two adults and their two pups—were living in unsuitable conditions despite the best intentions of the individuals who initially rescued them. With space and the knowledge to care for them at Panthera Africa, we were able to step in when Cape Nature wished to euthanise them. Panthera Africa will provide them with a new start, filled with proper care, nutrition and a natural, spacious habitat.
“Our goal has always been to provide animals in need with a second chance at a better life and we’re grateful for the support of our donors who made this rescue possible, but there is still a long way to go to cover the associated costs.” said Lizaene Cornwall, Co-Founder and Managing Director of Panthera Africa.
Veterinary care played a crucial role in ensuring the jackals’ wellbeing. Dr. Peter Caldwell from Old Chapel Veterinary Clinic conducted comprehensive medical procedures, including vaccinations, deworming, microchipping and sterilization, to secure their health and prevent breeding in captivity—a core principle of Panthera Africa’s ethical stance.
“We are committed to creating an environment where these jackals can live as naturally as possible, despite their captive circumstances,” added Lizaene Cornwall, Co-Founder of Panthera Africa. “They now have a space full of greenery, trees, and hideaways, which is a world apart from the small, sand-filled enclosure they came from.”
While the jackals have safely arrived, Panthera Africa continues to seek support to cover the remaining costs of their transportation, veterinary care, and habitat enhancements.
