Panthera Africa strongly believes that everyone can make a difference, which is what we will seek to do for the thousands of big cats in need of a safe haven. Panthera Africa is a true sanctuary where animal welfare is in focus, and no hands-on interaction, breeding or trading takes place.
As more and more countries are uniting to free wild animals from zoos and circuses, the need for safe havens like Panthera Africa is essential. Partnering up with animal welfare organisations and activists, Panthera Africa helps to give big cats a new chance at life either on personal ground or elsewhere and ensures the animals the best possible life in captivity. The cats will learn to live side by side with humans and see that life can be filled with love, respect and can enrich both heart, mind, body and soul.
So far, Panthera Africa has saved and relocated 23 animals. The Rescue Team has arranged rescues from all over South Africa, as well as an international rescue from Argentina. The big cats we have rescued have flourished under our care, and transformed from mere empty shell to a beautiful soulful happy being.
We have rescued animals from breeding facilities, the canned hunting industry, bone trade industry, captive household, a tiny cage where the lion was kept after living her whole life in a circus trailer, and the list goes on.
The Rescue Team has also managed to relocate a number of rescued big cats to other ethical sanctuaries in South Africa. One of the founders, Lizaene Cornwall, is particularly active in this area and works tirelessly to find suitable homes for big cats in need of rescue.
