South Africa has been crippled by a national energy crisis for many years, and the crisis is escalating with no end in sight. Due to what is termed “loadshedding”, which is essentially rolling blackouts, our animals’ food storage is under severe threat. The temperatures of the freezers are too high due to lack of electricity to cool them down, resulting in food defrosting and new food having problem freezing.

To ensure constant food for our animals we need to store a supply for 3-6 months, and we cannot afford to throw away tons of food, which has already happened. Large amount of money is also spent on securing food for our pride, and so our situation is critical both for the food supply as well as our financial situation.
